Mauritius Equity Markets | 06 Oct 2015: Negative moods persisted at the Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity trading
PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — Negative moods persisted at the Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity markets trading today. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 213.088 billion after sagging by MUR 103 million (about US$2.9 million) compared to previous market capitalization of MUR 213.191 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) plunged by 0.05 percent or 0.92 points to close at 1,913.48 and SEM10 index tumbled by 0.14 percent or 0.50 points to end at 365.70 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 4,186,218 (a rise relative to volume of 1,137,820 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 69.466 million (a rise relative to MUR 36.609 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 1,464,700 (about 35.71 percent of total volume) at MUR 1.230 million and Mauritius Development Investment Trust registered 1,022,804 traded stocks amounted to MUR 5.155 million. New Mauritius Hotels traded 603,159 at MUR 10.670 million and CIM Financial Services recorded a total volume of 272,100 shares at MUR 2.231 million. LUX Island Resorts Limited also recorded 163,600 shares at MUR 10.184 million.
Looking at the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 26 traded securities there were 5 price gainers and 7 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended negative. OMNICANE Limited surged by 2.99 percent to end at MUR 69.00, United Docks Limited added 2.41 percent to close at MUR 74.25, Mauritius Development Investment Trust grew by 1.20 percent to settle at MUR 5.08, VIVO Energy Limited soared by 0.22 percent to trade at MUR 116.25 and Rogers & Co Limited jumped by 0.17 percent to end at MUR 29.00.
On the laggards’ tablet, Mauritius Chemical & Fertilizer Industry closed at MUR 21.00 after losing 4.55 percent and New Mauritius Hotel slumped by 1.94 percent to settle at MUR 17.65. Also, TERRA Mauricia Limited went down by 0.67 percent to settle at MUR 29.50, GAMMA Civic Services fell by 0.57 to trade at MUR 26.15 and POLICY Limited plunged by 0.57 percent to end at MUR 6.92.
The DEMEX index closed at 205.87 points after adding 0.13 points or 0.06 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 50.618 billion after gaining MUR 3 million (relative to MUR 50.588 billion recorded at previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 13.009 million exchanged in 686,885 traded securities. SODIA Limited surged by 23.91 percent to trade at MUR 0.57, SIT Land Hedging Option gained 6.60 percent to end MUR 11,300 and Phoenix Investment Limited climbed by 1.90 to conclude at MUR 254.75. Whereas, ENL Limited (Preference) lost 1.82 percent to settle at MUR 27.00, EUDCOS closed at MUR 15.80 by losing 0.63 percent and ENL Investment Limited fell by 0.50 to settle at MUR 49.00.
